Briefly Describe Your Chapter’s Philanthropy Event : We have two different, but equally large and important, projects that we do each year. One is volunteer-based while the other is a fundraiser. The volunteer based one is done during the early winter with an organization called Coats for Kids; they collect coats through donation and then distribute them to kids and others who need them for winter time. We go in and take the donated coats out of boxes, organize them by size and type, and then hang them up for distribution.

Our second event, the fundraiser, is a basketball “low-hoop” tournament that we put on at our fraternity house every spring. Low-hoop is a basketball game played on 8 foot baskets, as opposed to the normal 10 foot, making the game much faster-paced. The tournament is advertised at fraternity houses, Gregory gym, and other high-traffic areas. Teams pay an entry fee, sign up into one of three skill brackets, and then play in a four day tournament. There are always plenty of fans in attendance to watch the games. All proceeds from the entry fee go to a charitable organization of the fraternity’s choice. This past year, we raised about $ 1000 for St. Jude’s Children Hospital for cancer research.
